This is one dog who can win hearts with his searching eyes and inviting expression! Doogan is a broad-headed, short-haired mix who came from a local reservation. He loves to play with his toys and carries them around waiting for someone to join in the game. He is approx. 45 lbs and 6 years old. Doogan has some facial scars from a rough past, but wants to put it all behind and start anew! He is very athletic and attentive to direction. He loves other dogs too! We believe he will make a loving and loyal addition to your family! He has a strong preference for women.
Shar Pei
Swayze
Swayze is so good-natured here at the shelter, LOVES playing with kids and is fun to watch as he entertains himself with his jolly ball and tries to get the attention of visitors with his squeaky toys. He's also good with other dogs. However, he was adopted out recently and what we found is that Swayze bonds with core people quickly and completely (His adoptive family LOVED him), but he became protective of his people and their space and developed a suspicious and guarding nature where strangers are concerned. He would only be a candidate for adoption to the right person: Someone who is very dog-savvy and would offer consistent and appropriate training and guidance around Swayze's guarding behaviors. The ideal setting would be a low-bustle, predictable living situation, with few comings and goings of non-core people. Swayze is around 4 years old.
Sammy
Sammy is a 5 year old, very shy, one-person dog. She would be excellent for a single-person household. She requires a lot of exercise and must have a fenced yard accessible from the door of her new home. She tends to be dominant with other dogs, but can get along with them. Sammy came to our shelter from a rescue in Dulce.
Wolfie
Wolfie was born at Annie's Orphans, to a pregnant mother who was accepted from an out-of-state shelter prior to being euthanized. He was adopted out as a baby along with his sister Bailey. He is currently 2 years old and was returned for joint (with his sister) aggression toward another household pet. Additionally, Wolfie develops a strong bond with a person and has shown protective/guarding behaviors when other people approach the primary individual. Adoption is a possibility to only the right individual who has knowledge of the breed and of handling challenging behaviors in dogs. The necessary living arrangement would include a quiet setting with a solo person.
Hope
Hope is an owner-surrendered female of 6 to 7 years of age. While she came from a home with other dogs, she seems to work best within a single-dog household. She has a history of being fine with cats, but needs to go to a home with no small children. Hope is very engaging with adults.
Bailey
Bailey was born here to a pregnant mother rescued from an out-of-state shelter prior to being euthanized. She was adopted out as a puppy and is now a 2 year old. She was returned following aggressive behaviors toward another household pet. She was reported to have growled at her owner, as well, when she was verbally corrected for her behavior with the other pet. Bailey is a special case and will be adopted out only to the right person: a dog- savvy individual who is very familiar with the Shar Pei breed.
