ADOPT A SENIOR - Odie

ADOPT A SENIOR - Odie
Odie is just the coolest boy -- mellow and affectionate. He is another one of our dogs who has been here far too long! In his young, rebellious years, he "ran with the gang," but that was then, this is now. He is an older guy -- 12 years old -- and weighs about 55 lbs. He must have a fenced yard and has to be kept on a leash when walked outside of his yard. As an older fellow, he now has arthritis (and is on Rimadyl), but it doesn't affect his sunny outlook. The only thing that ruffles Odie's feathers is the sound of thunder, although he is also not good with cats. He enjoys people and would love a permanent placement for the remainder of his days.

Zoe

Zoe
Zoe is around 6 years old. When she arrived here, she was in her final days of pregnancy and had been traveling, as a stray, on a busy Utah highway. She loves people (sometimes, with a bit more enthusiasm than is necessary, but she does settle down with appropriate direction). Zoe will need a home with a secure yard, and an active lifestyle would be good for her. She would like a companion who can be with her a lot --someone who works from home or is retired. Another doggy companion would also be ideal.

Adopt a senior - Swayze

Adopt a senior - Swayze
Swayze has a "complex personality" -- He gets very attached to "his" people, LOVES playing with kids and is fun to watch as he entertains himself with his jolly ball and tries to get the attention of visitors with his squeaky toys. He's also good with other dogs. Meanwhile, when bonded with core people, he can become protective of his family and their space and can act suspicious and guarded where strangers are concerned. He would only be a candidate for adoption to the right person: someone who is very dog-savvy and would offer consistent and appropriate training and guidance around Swayze's guarding behaviors.  The ideal setting would be a low-bustle, predictable living situation, with few comings and goings of non-core people.  Swayze is around 9 years old. UPDATE: Swayze was recently diagnosed with Pemphigus Erythematosus.

Clancy

Clancy
Clancy has returned to our shelter: He was adopted out as a puppy and was returned due to injuring a small dog living nearby. Clancy is believed to be a mix of Shepherd and Carolina Dog, but also looks as if he may have some degree of wolf included in the mix. Due to the reason for his return, there is the question of how he might behave with small dogs, in general. We will be looking for a home with no small children. Clancy is very friendly and engaging with people and walks great on leash (but is evasive with being leashed-up, a behavioral issue around which he's currently receiving training). He is a beautiful, regal-looking guy of red-sable and white coloration. Clancy is around 5 years old.

Wolfie

Wolfie
Wolfie was born at Annie's Orphans, to a pregnant mother who was accepted from an out-of-state shelter prior to being euthanized. He was adopted out as a baby along with his sister Bailey. He is 6 years old and was returned within the first year of his life for pack aggression toward another household pet. Additionally, Wolfie develops a strong bond with a person and has shown protective/guarding behaviors when other people approach the primary individual. Adoption is a possibility to only the right individual who has knowledge of the breed and of handling challenging behaviors in dogs.  The necessary living arrangement would include a quiet setting with a solo person.

Luke

Luke
Luke is a 2 year old BC mix. He is dog-friendly, and applied behavioral training and gentle handling have helped him diminish his wariness of men. While a bit on the submissive side, this, too, is responding well to training. Luke has a hip-socket issue, and assessment of his x-rays concluded, per his vet, that surgery is not necessary right now and likely will not be for years, but as he advances in age, intervention may be necessary. Interested parties should know that Luke is not the choice for a running partner or super-athlete.

Charlie2

Charlie2
Charlie is a Carolina Dog from Tijuana. He is a very handsome young fellow, approximately two years of age, with nice coloring and ears sized for function! He is good with dogs and children, but not with cats. Charlie is good-natured and active. He would likely be fantastic in agility classes. Potential adopters will need to have a secure yard. Charlie also will need more training on leash.

Toto

Toto
This senior Chiweenie will need a special home. He is overweight and needs gentle exercise on a regular basis. Toto is good with other dogs and loves lap-time. He would like a female caregiver, as he is not very good with men. A home without small children is also needed. He is between 11 and 12 years old.

Tink

Tink
This little, red Dachshund likes people and enjoys attention and snuggle-time. She is also good with other dogs, with the exception being that she needs to be fed separately, as she has food-aggression. Tink is between 9 and 10 years old and will need a home with no small children. She is a great pet for a retired or employed-from-home individual who needs a good companion.
