Adopt a senior - Swayze

Adopt a senior - Swayze
Swayze has a "complex personality" -- He gets very attached to "his" people, LOVES playing with kids and is fun to watch as he entertains himself with his jolly ball and tries to get the attention of visitors with his squeaky toys. He's also good with other dogs. Meanwhile, when bonded with core people, he can become protective of his family and their space and can act suspicious and guarded where strangers are concerned. He would only be a candidate for adoption to the right person: someone who is very dog-savvy and would offer consistent and appropriate training and guidance around Swayze's guarding behaviors.  The ideal setting would be a low-bustle, predictable living situation, with few comings and goings of non-core people.  Swayze is around 10 years old and has Pemphigus Erythematosus.

Adopt a Senior - Toto

Adopt a Senior - Toto
This senior Chiweenie will need a special home. He is overweight and needs gentle exercise on a regular basis. Toto is good with other dogs and loves lap-time. He would like a female caregiver, as he is not very good with men. A home without small children is also needed. He is between 12 and 13 years old.

ADOPT A SENIOR - Traveler

ADOPT A SENIOR - Traveler
Traveler has been waiting for "a person of his own" for a very long time. He has lived his entire life at Annie's Orphans, having been found as a stray with his mother when he was about 5 weeks old. They were both starving and close to freezing on the 5 degree morning of their rescue. As a quiet boy, he has been repeatedly overlooked. Traveler is a shy fellow and takes time to warm up, but is able to bond. He is good with most dogs. His preferred placement is a calm, quiet environment with no children. Traveler is on the small side of medium and is 11 years old. He experiences arthritis in a front foot and a history of rebounding extremely well after the removal of a tumor from his tongue a couple of years ago.

Adopt a Senior: Annie

Adopt a Senior: Annie
Annie recently lost her adoptive family; then, went to stay in a temporary setting, where she was jumped by the resident dog. She is looking for a peaceful, loving home, where she can enjoy being secure and adored! Annie is a sweet girl and loves her walks. She is between 8 and 9 years old and was trained to a doggy door, but will probably need a refresher course.

Adopt a Senior: Peanut

Adopt a Senior: Peanut
Peanut has had an interesting history with our shelter, in that -- after 3 adoptions -- she keeps coming back to be with us. She is, without question, an absolute favorite here...with staff, volunteers and visitors. This girl is smart, attentive, friendly, ready to entertain...just a happy, engaging girl. She will be an exceptional companion in the right home: This means a household with no other dogs, no cats and no small children. Even though Peanut is 9 years old, she is still full of energy and will need a secure fence. What we have found through rehoming efforts with her is: 1) while she has been tolerant of dogs in a social sphere, Peanut will not share a home with them; 2) now that she is older, her patience for young children has flown and she will not be adopted out to a household with small children or where little kids frequently visit; 3) Peanut will require leashed activity and a secure fence. Having said all that, Peanut is a superb dog for an individual or couple who can offer her the amazing companionship that she can gift back. Call us about this gorgeous, fit and healthy girl !!

Angela

Angela
Angela is a Heeler mix (crossed with, probably, either Kelpie or Carolina Dog), approximately 4 years old, and came as a transfer from Tijuana. She is ginger colored, with a black saddle and muzzle. She is on the small side, and is fully vetted/negative on heart worm. Angela is great with dogs/kids/folks. She is easy on the leash, very responsive, and will make someone a fabulous companion. We're hoping that Angela finds her match soon, as kennel life has proven to be stressful for her.

Bear - Adoption Pending

Bear - Adoption Pending
Bear is two years old, very sweet/ gentle/affectionate; he likes to be around people and other dogs. Bear enjoys activity and time spent running and playing in the woods. He would do well to live with a family with a fenced yard and perhaps another dog. Bear has a lot of energy but also likes downtime, lounging and snuggling. He has all his shots and is neutered. The big hope is for a person or a family to permanently bond with and love this amazing guy... he really is a giant-hearted, wonderful dog!

Charlie2

Charlie2
Charlie is a Carolina Dog from Tijuana. He is a very handsome young fellow, approximately two years of age, with nice coloring and ears sized for function! He is good with dogs and children, but not with cats. Charlie is good-natured and active. He would likely be fantastic in agility classes. Potential adopters will need to have a secure yard. Charlie also will need more training on leash.

Cody & Sierra

Cody & Sierra
Cody and Sierra are two adult dogs who have a special bond with each other -- We would love to see them continue their long-term connection by going to the same home! Cody is a male Border Collie mix, beautiful and smart; Sierra is a female Chow mix, unique and soulful. They will be going in for vaccination updates soon and both are altered. These two are very good with people and other dogs.

Courtesy Posting - Aspen

Courtesy Posting - Aspen
Aspen is a courtesy posting and, as such, is not on-site and is represented as described to us. Please contact the number at the end of the bio for more info: Aspen, a female Siberian Husky, is approximately 10 years old. She was a rescue from Las Cruces, NM, and has been in Albuquerque with the same family for 9 years. As her current family has had some children, it's become apparent that Aspen is not good around toddlers and will snap at and act aggressively if her tail is touched. Aspen is a high energy dog that loves to go on walks. She would do best in an active family, as an only dog in a household with no small children. Aspen needs a fenced yard and walks on leash. For more information, please call: 505-206-8442.
