Adopt a senior - Swayze

Adopt a senior - Swayze
Swayze has a "complex personality" -- He gets very attached to "his" people, LOVES playing with kids and is fun to watch as he entertains himself with his jolly ball and tries to get the attention of visitors with his squeaky toys. He's also good with other dogs. Meanwhile, when bonded with core people, he can become protective of his family and their space and can act suspicious and guarded where strangers are concerned. He would only be a candidate for adoption to the right person: someone who is very dog-savvy and would offer consistent and appropriate training and guidance around Swayze's guarding behaviors.  The ideal setting would be a low-bustle, predictable living situation, with few comings and goings of non-core people.  Swayze is around 9 years old. UPDATE: Swayze was recently diagnosed with Pemphigus Erythematosus.

ADOPT A SENIOR - Traveler

ADOPT A SENIOR - Traveler
Traveler has been waiting for "a person of his own" for a very long time. He has lived his entire life at Annie's Orphans, having been found as a stray with his mother when he was about 5 weeks old. They were both starving and close to freezing on the 5 degree morning of their rescue. As a quiet boy, he has been repeatedly overlooked. Traveler is a shy fellow and takes time to warm up, but is able to bond. He is good with most dogs. His preferred placement is a calm, quiet environment with no children. Traveler is on the small side of medium and is 10 years old. UPDATE: Traveler has developed swelling/arthritis in a front foot. He also had a tumor removed from his tongue. His paradoxical reaction to the surgery has been amazing, in that he is acting like a kid again -- animated, full of energy! Give this "seasoned" boy a chance for a great home!

Amber2

Amber2
This young, female dog was rescued, along with her brother, by a big-hearted individual who found the two -- needy and malnourished -- at the trailhead of Chaco Canyon. Amber is on the very small side of medium. She has a sweet temperament and is around two years old. Amber is looking for a secure home where she will never experience abandonment and hunger again.

Andy

Andy
Andy is another of our fabulous Carolina Dog mixes and is sooo cute, with his huge ears and his lighter-colored mask! Andy came to us from an out-of-state shelter via foster-care. He is a bit shy, but enjoys solid bonds with people. Andy is around 7 years old, and has had house-training in the past, but will need a refresher-course upon adoption. Contact us about this special boy!

Angela

Angela
Angela is a Heeler mix (probably, either Kelpie or Carolina Dog), approximately 3 years old, and came as a transfer from Tijuana. She is ginger colored, with a black saddle and muzzle. She is on the small side, and is fully vetted/negative on heart worm. Angela is great with dogs/kids/folks. She is easy on the leash, very responsive, and will make someone a fabulous companion.

Annabella

Annabella
Annabella came to us from a Denver shelter, via foster care. She is 7 years old, responsive and good on a leash. The exclusive focus provided to her by one of our dedicated volunteers has paid off in big ways: Annabella completed a doggie "manners" class and was a star pupil !! She has a lot of energy and benefits from good direction and consistency. She ABSOLUTELY LOVES people and is exceptionally good with kids. Annabella has very pretty features and lots of charm! Now, the reason she hasn't yet been adopted --with other dogs, Annabella is territorial of her space and can be dog aggressive. Although she has been doing much better in that department, she will prefer placement as a solo pet.

Charlie2

Charlie2
Charlie is a Carolina Dog from Tijuana. He is a very handsome young fellow, approximately two years of age, with nice coloring and ears sized for function! He is good with dogs and children, but not with cats. Charlie is good-natured and active. He would likely be fantastic in agility classes. Potential adopters will need to have a secure yard. Charlie also will need more training on leash.

Clancy

Clancy
Clancy has returned to our shelter: He was adopted out as a puppy and was returned due to injuring a small dog living nearby. Clancy is believed to be a mix of Shepherd and Carolina Dog, but also looks as if he may have some degree of wolf included in the mix. Due to the reason for his return, there is the question of how he might behave with small dogs, in general. We will be looking for a home with no small children. Clancy is very friendly and engaging with people and walks great on leash (but is evasive with being leashed-up, a behavioral issue around which he's currently receiving training). He is a beautiful, regal-looking guy of red-sable and white coloration. Clancy is around 5 years old.

Cody & Sierra

Cody & Sierra
Cody and Sierra are two adult dogs who have a special bond with each other -- We would love to see them continue their long-term connection by going to the same home! Cody is a male Border Collie mix, beautiful and smart; Sierra is a female Chow mix, unique and soulful. They will be going in for vaccination updates soon and both are altered. These two are very good with people and other dogs.

Courtesy Posting - Penny

Courtesy Posting - Penny
As a courtesy posting, Penny is not on-site at Annie's Orphans. She is described per information provided to us by the owner: Penny is a spayed, female Great Pyrenees/ Anatolian Shepherd. Her birthdate is 11/2/2006; so she is a senior, but in very healthy condition -- especially for a large breed dog. She has lived with a herd of alpacas and kept the area clear of predators. When I adopted another Anatolian mix to help Penny, everything went well until that new female began to be aggressive toward Penny. Apparently she was becoming the alpha and would no longer put up with Penny as her teacher. Now, Penny is in danger. She has been attacked twice by the new female and treated at the vet's office for bite wounds. She has recovered and is in good condition. Everyone who has ever been in contact with Penny remarks on her sweet disposition. She is kind as well as beautiful. She will go beyond my property boundaries to avoid the new dog, so I have to keep her confined to protect her. Unfortunately my property is enclosed with field fence which does not keep dogs inside. Penny needs a loving home where she has fenced perimeters. She can be indoors without any accidents. She is most comfortable outdoors, but her hair is just growing back from the shave to treat wounds. Penny takes thyroid medication twice a day in a tiny pill that goes into a bit of wet food on top of Victor dry food. Contact: JoAnn at 970-563-0231.
