Eddie

Eddie is a German Terrier who is adoptable to the right person -- an individual with a lot of dog experience and training know-how. He has abundant energy that needs to be applied in a positive direction. He will require a secured, fenced yard and a home with no other pets, as he is unpredictable with other dogs. He can also be unpredictable with strangers. Eddie is 9 years old and came from a high-kill, out-of-state shelter. He was treated for heart-worm disease in the past and is clear to be adopted.

Jackson

Jackson came to us from an out-of-state shelter.  He is around 2 years old (as of 7/2019), with a full life of fun ahead of him (something he came close to being denied at the previous shelter).  This fellow is good with most dogs and a friendly fellow with people. He is microchipped, complete with vet-work and ready for his best future-friend to show up.

Sasquatch

Sasquatch is a one-year-old, purebred Carolina Dog.  He is a very smart boy and knows the "sit" and "down" commands.  With a focus on socialization over the past few months, Sasquatch has shown great improvement in two areas: his sometimes dominant response to other dogs and his tendency to take flight when afraid. He is currently well-paired/kenneled with a same-size dog, but is probably not a consideration for a home with a small dog or cat.  He will need a secure yard and leashed walks, plus further socialization to continue to work with flight-response. He is very friendly with people, loving and ready to learn!

Belen

Belen is a 19-month old dog from Tijuana, maybe a Carolina dog mix. She is loving, cuddly, sweet, and funny! Belen (rhymes with Helen) loves just about everyone, including children and kitties. She has been represented as very good with other dogs, but we also received information from foster-care about a recent altercation with another dog; so, for anyone interested in adopting her, it will be important that we test out compatibility with any other dogs within the household. Her foster family has worked with her on basic commands and leash training.

Little Boy

Little Boy is a black and tan Min-Pin/Chihuahua mix. He is a good guard dog, in that he puts forth a good show of being a tough-guy; however, he is a sweet fellow in his own uniquely independent way. LB was surrendered to us after he wandered to someone's house and made that his temporary home. He has made a great change for the better since being here, now that he's had plenty of opportunity to develop trusting connections.

Murdock

Our little Murdock is back, and we’re, again, holding out hopes that he will find the bonded, life-long commitment that we believe is out there for him. In the meanwhile, he is our treasure! This happy little boy is the poster-child for Annie's Orphans' dedication to the foundations that LIFE MATTERS and EVERYONE DESERVES A FAIR CHANCE. This young Carolina Dog mix and his brother were transferred to us as puppies, a mere two-hours before their brief lives were scheduled to come to an end. Little is known about their back-story, but they were picked up as strays with evidence of physical trauma -- presumably from abuse. The outcome of that, for Murdock, was what appears to be trauma-related brain-injury, with resulting developmental delays and visual "miswiring." Steadily, with the passing of time, we’ve seen him evolving, with clear signs of incremental improvement [ex: increased visual tracking ability and less time "watching airplanes" that don’t exist (not to us, at least!)]. As Murdock has matured, he has developed food-guarding behaviors; so he won’t be adopted to a home with children. Despite his life-challenges and tough breaks, Murdock is one of the most innocent and cheerful beings on earth, with unwavering optimism — which says much about him! We hold hopes that just the right person will show for him; he is best suited for a companion with plenty of patience, dedication to the process, time and love to give…one who can both accommodate his differences and support his potential.

*** We have other special-needs dogs, as well, who continue to wait for their opportunity to shine. Most are simply shy dogs, who will need gentle handling and measured, appropriate exposure. Khaleese (Sanctuary Dogs, Page 5), however, experiences challenges more similar to Murdock’s. She, too, is expected to blossom, given a supportive environment, with exposure to standard doggy life-tasks, as well as graduated introduction to all types of stimulation. THANK YOU TO THE SPECIAL PEOPLE WHO SHOW UP FOR SPECIAL DOGS! ***

Pearle

Pearle is a wonderfully sweet dog, who bonds readily.  She is submissive with other (same-size) dogs, and good with kids.  Pearle is probably not the best fit for a household with small dogs or cats, but she was well socialized.  She loves to swim and go on other outings with her people. Pearle was returned to our shelter, due to unexpected household issues -- no fault of her own -- so, she is used to life in a home.  This girl is currently 2 years old (as of 7/2019).

Sonny

Sonny is a Feist, transferred from Tijuana.  He came off the streets, but has been fostered; so, he is probably house-trained.  This kid is very playful/friendly/good-natured with people, including children. As he has matured, he has developed a little dominance/jealousy with other dogs, so that would need to be tested out before adoption to a household that has another dog.
