Sanctuary Dogs

At Annie's Orphans, one of the most important parts of our mission is that we are a no-kill shelter. Many of the dogs that come to the shelter may be deemed "un-adoptable" because of health issues, behavioral issues or a variety of other conditions which makes it very unlikely that they will ever be adopted or, at the least, makes them very difficult to adopt. At Annie's, these are our "Sanctuary Dogs" and they will always have a safe and caring home as they live out their lives with us!

At Annie's, we can't do it without the support of our community. Please, email us to learn how to sponsor a specific sanctuary dog.  Meet some of our Sanctuary Dogs below:

ATTENTION: WE'RE UNABLE TO ACCEPT NEW SANCTUARY DOGS

WE’RE SORRY TO SAY THAT WE HAVE HAD TO PLACE AN INDEFINITE MORATORIUM ON INTAKE OF DOGS WITH SEVERE BEHAVIORAL ISSUES OR THOSE OTHERWISE KNOWN TO BE UNADOPTABLE. THE SANCTUARY COMPONENT OF OUR SHELTER IS AT MAXIMUM CAPACITY. STILL, THE REQUESTS KEEP COMING IN: THE NEED IS GREATER THAN THE MEANS. IT IS AGAINST OUR NATURE TO SAY NO TO DOGS IN NEED; YET, AS A RESCUE WITH LIMITED PREDICTABLE FUNDING AND MINIMAL STAFF, WE DON’T HAVE THE RESOURCES OR SPACE, AT PRESENT, TO GRANT FURTHER SANCTUARY REQUESTS.

Bella

Bella is a Lab-Pit mix.  Upon intake, she was believed to be adoptable with some behavioral focus, but has been found to be, with other dogs and people, unpredictable and a bite-risk.

Smokey

Smokey is a Shar Pei/Greyhound mix.  He is an extremely shy fellow, who was a one-man dog and is a bite-risk. He had a lot of difficulty adjusting to the loss of his companion.

Jewel

Jewel's story is odd, in that she won't let herself be successfully adopted out. At AO, she is an easy enough dog, but — during trial-adoptions — she is miserable and ends up hiding or engaging in destructive chewing. We’re still holding onto the possibility that just the right arrangement, with lots of supervision and personal availability, will show up for her.
